For People With PERSONALITYJust me announcing Family Adventure Sessions and thinking about how I’d photograph the whole family together….and realizing my favorite part is the kids. And their crazy personalities. Or curiosity.
As a mother of three myself, I clearly love kids. I spent years volunteering in the classroom or getting involved in all my kids’ activities or moms group I could find. There is just something so pure and beautiful about the way that kids experience the world.
They don’t worry about if they look fat. Or if their outfit is wrinkled. Or what their hair is doing. No kids are fairly free from all that self-doubt and hate that we pile upon ourselves with age.
And I think we all love seeing that part of our children. Freezing that innocence. Bottling it up. Because HOLY FUCK have you met the teen years yet? I have. And the death stare of a teenager is worse than any curse you could pull from a Harry Potter novel.
I recently ran into a mom from my daughter’s TK class who told me she missed having me there photographing the school events. She missed the images. I loved photographing the school parties and events for the other parents. Not only because it meant they were free to enjoy themselves but because I gave them the photos of their kids I would take of my own.
It’s taken a while to get here. Same with everything else in life. I recently saw an interview with the comedian Tina Friml on Trevor Noah’s podcast. She commented that, “life is eight decades of discovering about yourself what other people figured out in a few minutes.” Which feels like an apt description considering how frequently my friends would comment they wished they had my images of their own kids. It took me a while to realize they were really pointing out, JUST LET ME PAY YOU TO TAKE PICTURES OF MY KIDS. whoops.
It’s time to make it official. Childhood sessions for the kids. Let me photograph your kids the way you see them or Family Adventure sessions to capture all the love.
Oh and look, a call to action, cause we can’t start planning until you reach out. So hit the button and let’s talk.
